PHOTOS: 4,000-year-old pyramid found in Hungary

Archaeologists and experts are analysing an earth pyramid discovered near Kengyel in Central Hungary. The pyramid was built in the Bronze Age and is probably more than 4 thousand years old. Below, you may check out the details and some photos.

According to the Hortobágyi Nemzeti Park (Hortobágy National Park), Hungary’s oldest national park, the kurgan or earth pyramid was found two years ago by a conservation warden. Unfortunately, the state of the building deteriorated in the past years because farmers used its high-quality soil for agricultural purposes. That is why they started to analyse the pyramid to preserve what is left of it.

The national park and the János Damjanich Museum in Szolnok aim to create a vertical wall to analyse the horizontal soil layers of the kurgan. The joint work was successful, and they found ceramics there. Based on those findings, they estimated that the earth pyramid was created more than 4 thousand years ago. That means the kurgan is from the early Bronze Age of the Carpathian Basin.
